5.0 out of 5 stars GM 1 Wire 14.8 Volt DC Alternator, July 1, 2007
Here's the pros and cons wrt usin this alternator for a pedal power generator. CONs first. (1) If you pedal with nothing hooked up to it, you wil ruin this alternator. The internal regulator will blow. (2)Only people who are over 5 ft. in height will be able to get it going fast enough to start the voltage and current flowing. Not a good design for children. (3) If you try and charge a battery with it, you it will be way to hard to pedal unless you put a .5 to 1 ohm resistor in series. (4) you have to use a bike that has at gears, or you may not be able to get it spinning fast enough to start it.

PROS: Regulated DC voltage output at 14.8V. Rugged design being that it's designed to run under the hood of a car.

I hooked this car alternator up as a bike generator. The only major limitations is that you have to use this alternator with a bike that has at least 10 gears and some one who is at least 12 years old. The reason for having to use a bike with gears... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Set up and still working..., October 30, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Allstar Performance ALL80500 63 Amp 1-Wire Alternator (Automotive)
We installed this alternator on a 1978 Triumph Spitfire we run in endurance races. We needed more power for extra headlights for a 24 hour race back in June 2012. Needed a new bracket and longer belt to make it fit but that was easy enough with a couple generic parts from the local auto parts store.

Hooked the power lines to the one wire connection and everything worked. Used six 55watt lights and an electric fan on top of normal ignition and brake lights and had no issues. It is still working to this day (10/30/2012) - Great alternator for the price.

The auto start function is at pretty low RPM we don't have to rev the motor to turn it on. There is no ignition connection required with this unit.

Plenty of power for older cars when you need a quick simple install for more amps to cover higher power lights or a maybe a high amp stereo.

One wires are simple install just make sure you have a good heavy gauge wire running from it to the battery... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars conversion Alt, November 29, 2011
This review is from: Allstar Performance ALL80500 63 Amp 1-Wire Alternator (Automotive)
I have well used Ford 640 that was in need of TLC.
I had to replace most of the electrical and decided that
it would be a good time for the conversion to 12 volts.
There were no surprises in the change over.
I had to make mounting bracket modifications.
The Allstar Alt is performing great.
